Biography

Stephanie Hicks is a Melbourne-based visual artist working across collage, drawing, bookbinding and installation. Her practice focuses on the relationship between image and object, the use of systems and patterning, and traditions of craft and decorative arts. The collection and arrangement of photographic images is central to Stephanie’s creative practice. Images from vintage books and journals, found photographs, stickers and ephemera are incorporated into a personal archive system in which meaning is articulated though the use of formal qualities such as patterning, repetition and symmetry.

Stephanie Hicks has a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the ANU School of Art with First Class Honours. Recent projects include: Not a love, not a jewel, not a single line, Bundoora Homestead Art Centre; CUT, The Dirty Dozen, Melbourne; Sanctuary, The Ownership Project, Melbourne; and Dance Piece, Wide Open Road Art, Castlemaine. Stephanie has been shortlisted for the Wyndham Art Prize, the Banyule Works on Paper Award, the City of Hobart Art Prize and the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award. Her work is held in private collections within Australia, including The Peter Fay Collection and the Henry Ergas Private Collection.
